One of the most significant honors I’ve ever had the privilege of receiving is the Reciprocate Award, an accolade that celebrates the spirit of giving without expecting anything in return.
It’s rather ironic, as the very essence of giving back is rooted in selflessness. I’d like to believe that I was the inaugural recipient of this award, as it originated from the inception of my Builder’s Club in 2016, even though I shared this title with Lorena Rodriguez.
Over the years, I’ve had the pleasure of witnessing some of my dearest friends receive this award, years after I did:
Laura Fernandez, also known as my favorite Oompa Loompa co-worker and the current mother of my future daughter-in-law, stands out as a remarkable educator who continues to inspire me with her unwavering optimism and dedication to her students. Her lifelong commitment to learning ensures that she will leave an indelible mark on her students, regardless of where her journey takes her.
Colin Yamashita, my favorite Japanese teacher, and coincidentally, the DJ at my former wedding, has an uncanny knack for stirring up gossip and getting entangled in dramatic situations, which never fails to amuse me. The school simply wouldn’t be the same without him, even though I must humbly admit that my student news episodes were unmatched.
Last but not least, there’s Enrico Cosinas, my favorite Filipino teacher, who I never refer to as the Olivia Rodrigo to my Taylor Swift. Enrico’s love for Jollibee and his promising future as an admin-in-training gives me hope that not all members of administration are evil. I can only hope that he’ll pass on his calm, patient, and kind nature to Gabriela’s future child.
As I move forward on my journey, I am committed to perpetuating the spirit of reciprocity, continuing to give back to others, regardless of where life takes me.
