On the first day back from Spring Break, Mr. Chorn and I had the privilege of chaperoning a group of adventurous students to the OC Ropes Course in Yorba Linda, California. It was a refreshing transition from my time off, as I was able to engage with students outside of the classroom. The Builder’s Club, VSA, and Pep Club all participated in a variety of activities that tested their limits and encouraged teamwork.

One of the team building exercises involved mouse traps, which challenged the students’ problem-solving abilities. Later, the students were tasked with navigating a series of obstacles while suspended high above the ground. Some students were apprehensive at first, but many pushed past their fears and tackled the challenges head-on. Unfortunately, there was not enough time for the adults to join in on the fun (I would have been a coward anyway).
The experience reminded me of why I enjoy going on field trips and being immersed in hands-on learning experiences. I’m grateful that Builder’s Club had the chance to break free from their typical routine and try something new. With 8 weeks left to go before the school year ends, it’s back to teaching for me tomorrow. Sadness.
