What better way to get a new perspective on myself in 2020 than with a DNA test?
Though I’m not sure how accurate the results are, here is what I am according to Ancestry.com

I was hoping that there would be a few surprises in me being part Caucasian or even part African, but sadly I’m 100% Asian. But according to these results I’m only 95% Vietnamese and 5% Dai. I don’t know what Dai is, but it’s apparently a province in China.
This is a description of the Dai people according to Ancestry.com: ” Most modern-day inhabitants in our Dai region live in or around China’s Yunnan Province in China, on the boundary where China meets Southeast Asia both geographically and culturally. However, people have made their homes in the mountains and river valleys, including the floodplains of the Mekong, for thousands of years. They were among the first in Asia to use oxen to plow, artifacts from the Greek and Roman Empires show longstanding trade between east and west, and they were influenced by both Indian and Chinese culture. “
This changes nothing of course, being that I’m fully assimilated into American culture, raised by of course The Simpsons and other television shows popular in the 90s. To celebrate my heritages, I will continue to eat Pho (Vietnamese) and Panda Express (Chinese).
Though my results were rather boring, I encourage many others to do a DNA test to discover who they are, especially those of mixed heritage.
