Kai turns 1 today, effectively meaning Katherine and I have officially survived our first year of parenting. In a lot of ways, parenting brought us closer today, mostly due to the trauma bonding nature of the whole ordeal. Though it certainly went by slowly in some ways, it went by quickly in others. The newborn trenches were no joke.
I don’t take off days from work very often, not even for my own birthday. But, as a new parent, I vow to take every year off of work for Kai’s special day. Today was no exception – after some morning pictures, we proceeded for a doctor’s appointment where he would get 3 shots. Yay for vaccines.
The celebration continued of course with a visit to Build-a-Bear where Kai would get a bear for $1. Though they certainly tried to upsell us, the simple bear will suffice… for now. Until he’s old enough to choose what he wants on his own.
Speaking of which, we had him crawl to various objects to symbolize his future profession, and he gravitated towards the pencil and book. Which unfortunately means he will live a life without much money like his father, in education. Oh well, at least his heart is in the right place.
