After School Tutoring

Ever since I embarked on my teaching journey, I’ve been deeply involved in after-school tutoring.

During my tenure at Cram Middle School, students didn’t frequently seek assistance with history after regular school hours. However, I did engage in private tutoring opportunities facilitated by the school, which not only proved beneficial for the students but also rewarded me with hourly compensation.

At Rise Kohyang Middle School, my commitment went beyond compensation, as I dedicated extra time to work with students after school, free of charge. I often extended these sessions, occasionally keeping them for hours after school to help them achieve their annual reading goals.

My journey continued at Hosler Middle School, where I provided virtual after-school tutoring in exchange for extra pay.

And now, for the past few years at Dale, I’ve continued my after-school tutoring efforts, either in the school library or within the confines of my own classroom. This year, I’m excited to maximize my time by tutoring students on my caseload, ensuring they receive the support they need after school.

I hold profound respect for all educators in charter schools, acknowledging the countless hours they invest in shaping young minds. It’s disheartening to witness dedicated teachers not always receiving compensation for their extra efforts. While I’m more than willing to stay after hours to assist a student with their history assignments for free, I’ve noticed that as the years pass, such opportunities become increasingly rare.

Regardless of compensation, I firmly believe that being an exceptional teacher requires that extra commitment beyond regular school hours. I’m optimistic that, whatever the future may hold, my passion and energy will continue to drive me to invest that additional effort.
