As a child, one of the most cherished traditions from my past was the annual lantern lighting ceremony in my hometown of Stanton. These lanterns held a special significance, symbolizing the light of prosperity and good fortune. Looking back, it’s fascinating how these traditions played a role in shaping my life, ultimately leading me down the path to becoming a partially successful teacher and introducing me to Katherine. However, as time went on and my family relocated to Garden Grove, these cherished traditions gradually faded away, in part because my siblings and I grew older.
Another delightful aspect of this time of year was indulging in mooncakes. I distinctly recall my preference for those with sweet-bean fillings over those with egg yolk as a child.
Today, Katherine and I attended a children’s event where we received a lantern as a keepsake. While we did spend a significant amount of time trying to craft bracelets, with me often forgetting the pattern once we completed it, it was a heartwarming experience. I had intended to light the lantern, but my mom reminded me that it was meant for the kids. Instead, she suggested that I pass it on to my nieces and nephews, a sentiment that made perfect sense since I already had everything I desired.

As the moon festival approaches, I extend warm wishes to all those who celebrate it, as well as to those who may not partake in this tradition around the world. May this season bring you joy and prosperity.
