Westminster Mall today was a ghost-town.

It wasn’t surprising though. It has been slowly dying a death since inception. I think it reached its peak of attendees when I was in high school, only to be forever changed with the birth of the internet. With changing consumerist patterns, malls over America are slowly dying.
The worst example of this was the Puente Hill Malls in Rowland Heights where Back to the Future was filmed. Practically deserted with no attendees other than the ones going to Round 1. A bitter disappointing, but a sign of how things change and continue to change. There are a few exceptions, most notably upscale malls like South Coast Plaza that continue to attract wealthy and more upper-class consumers.
I am sad about this, purely for nostalgic reasons. I remember hanging out at Westminstser Mall when we had literally nothing else to do back in the day. Now, with endless entertainment at our fingertips at home, it’s no surprise people would rather do everything from the convenience of their own home (including shopping). Still, I will forever remember the Christmas shopping trips I went with my siblings to Westminster Mall.
Though it’s not dead yet, it’s obituary will come in due time.
