I had a decent time when my Anime Expo friend visited from out of town. We decided to head over to GardenWalk to enjoy an afternoon of board games. One of the standout games we played was 7 Wonders, and to my surprise, I managed to win! It could have been a stroke of beginner’s luck or perhaps some mysterious cheating strategy at play.

Regardless, I was thrilled to have the opportunity to reconnect with fellow enthusiasts and fellow weebs I hadn’t seen in a while. Each game we played brought back fond memories of games I’ve played in the past with my siblings, college friends and other nerds, and I realized how much I’ve enjoyed board games over the years. Among my favorites are Loaded Questions, Dominion, and Settlers of Catan.

Playing board games always transports me back to my childhood and indoor recess days, when the weather prevented us from going outside. There is always something calming and peaceful about playing games, unless of course you’re playing Risk which makes everyone upset. Of course games are never the same, and it all depends on the company you keep, which happened to be peaceful for the most part today.
