Weeb Friendships

As this time of year rolls around, I find myself reminiscing on all the times I volunteered for Anime Expo. While personal circumstances have prevented me from returning this summer, I will always cherish the memories of the shenanigans and camaraderie that came with volunteering.

One of the most precious gifts Anime Expo gave me was the opportunity to meet Katherine, who eventually became my wife. I’m forever grateful for this blessing and the lasting friendships that followed:

Annie (and her colleague Jin): Annie’s impressive organizational skills kept the Registration department running smoothly. Her passion for hiking and dance performances always brought an exciting energy to the group.

Josh: A loyal and honest friend who always had my back. I have fond memories of attending countless Late Night Comedy Shows together. Despite his initial resistance, I was thrilled to see him grow and become a respected manager in his own department.

Cathy: Her humor and sarcasm added a playful edge to our group, and I enjoyed making fun of her relentlessly. I also loved hearing about her travel adventures and seeing her food pictures on the internet.

Jennie: Her cooking skills were unparalleled, and her easy-going personality always made for a relaxing environment. She truly embodied the “chill” vibe we all strived for.

Michael: His leadership ability is something to be envied. His laid back mannerisms during board game nights, hiking adventures, and boba runs makes him a fun presence to always be around. As well as his excellent driving.

Mindy: A dedicated and hard-working individual, Mindy’s determination and loyalty led her to eventually become the manager of the now defunct pro reg department. Her contributions will always be remembered.

Although my days of weeb volunteering have come to an end, the memories of Anime Expo will always hold a special place in my heart.
