Tulsi Gabbard is my number one choice for the democratic nomination in 2020. I had the pleasure to not only see her speak but to also shake her hand, have with her a very very brief conversation thanking her for her service, and of course take a necessary selfie with the presidential candidate. As a libertarian you might think her progressive policies are contrarian to many of my beliefs. HOWEVER, I believe she is the strongest advocate for a change in US foreign policy, namely against regime change wars, and the strongest anti-war position in the race. The anti-war left largely dissipated after Barack Obama was elected president, even though he did nothing to actually change the foreign policy of George W. Bush.
The candidates I usually go to in the past and will continue to push for in the future are ones that seem to have consistency and integrity in their core beliefs. Tulsi will serve to benefit all Americans, and even though I don’t self-identify myself as a progressive, I do think if we cut enough in military spending (policing the world) we will be able to pay for programs like Medicare-for-all in the United States. The media will continue to use smear tactics on her or ignore her like they did with Ron Paul in 2012 and Bernie Sanders in 2016, largely because she is the biggest threat to the corporate power structures that be and the military industrial complex running this country. Regardless of how well does, she has my full support and I fully expect her to help at least bring awareness to the issue that our foreign policy needs to change.
