Day 51: Ronny Hoffman’s Reasons to Move to Nevada

Ronny Hoffman is trying to convince me to move back to Nevada to work yet again for the Clark County School District. Not going to happen. I wish him the best of luck at Cram Middle School though, the school where I started my teaching journey. I wish his daughter Sophie good luck with DeNeal as well.

Although his arguments are pretty sound – cheaper gas, cheaper cost of living, and comparable pay, there is an emotional attachment I have to California that perhaps I can never let go of. Even so, if I were to leave California – Nevada probably wouldn’t be my first choice in terms of places where I would want to teach. Maybe I could try teaching abroad for a year or something, but then again I love America too much.

Perhaps the greatest benefit to moving to Nevada would be its swing-state status, which means my vote would actually matter. Anyway, as the years progress, I’ll never forget the little bit of mentoring he gave me my first year and continues to give me moving forward in teaching and in life. Je vous remercie buddy, which means thank you in French.
