Cliffs are meant for climbing, and of course the occasional slips and falls will happen. I’d like to think of a cliff as a metaphor for life. The only way to make some progress in life sometimes is to take that leap and hope you land in a better place than you were before.
As for me, I’ve never felt happier about life, as cynical as I remain about all the evils in the world that plague our everyday society.
I promised myself that the “autumn” season of the four seasons project would usher in a new wave of memories that I hope will last forever in my heart. Having started the new RKMS school year as optimistically as possible, I have cultivated strong relationships with students and staff alike to hopefully create a better year than how last year ultimately turned out.
As for cliff climbing all the “cliffs”, both physical and metaphorical, climbed this year have fortunately landed me in a better place. Here are some concrete examples:
- My progress towards achievement of a half marathon are getting higher as I push myself to run more and more around Alhambra and Garbage Grove. With my peak now at 8 miles and holding steady for the past couple of weeks or so, I will slowly build up to that 13 mile peak of my journey.
Sure it might be an “indoor cliff”, but I actually went rock climbing for the first time ever after years of hesitation, and thoroughly enjoyed my experiences. Taking that leap “down” after climbing is a bit daunting though in my professional opinion.- As I continue my hiking adventures, I hope to continue to push myself towards higher peaks. Although Yosemite Half Dome remains the hardest one I’ve done so far, I did enjoy Wisdom Tree, Cahuenga Peak, and Mount Lee today, culminating in a nice view of the Downtown Los Angeles Smog-Line and back of the Hollywood Sign.

- The best kind of cliffs to climb and jump off of are the ones in real life though, where you will risk everything to gain the world (which I did) – and I hope to continue to do so as a proud American boy living in the United States of America. God bless America!
