Love is in the air. No other story better encapsulates what true love is than “The Gift of the Magi”, where the female protagonist chops off her hair to buy a watch chain for her husband, while her husband simultaneously sells his watch to buy her a comb. The irony twist ending shows that they are willing to go through such lengths to love one another.
Anyway, I’ve encountered many relationships throughout the course of my life, occasionally being the third wheel in various situations. While some are dysfunctional in nature, my sister’s relationship to my future brother-in-law Nam has quite possibly been the most positive one. And though the Tran gene of getting angry is still apparent in all of us, Nam’s well-mannered nature is able to adequately address the needs of my sister. Their love will transcend time, and even gifts, similar to the husband and wife in the short story mentioned above.
I am fortunate to have seen their relationship blossom from high school to the present, where they will get married in October in Hawaii. Today was just an “appetizer” of the wedding so to speak, a Vietnamese style reception meant to bring the two families together. I look constipated in the following picture.

Terrible picture below. You can blame the Korean photographer for that.
Thank you Nam for being a great person overall.

I have no doubts that their marriage will go far. I hope they have kids too because Nam would make a great father.

It was also my mom’s birthday too, so it was a double-affair for joy and happiness! Happy birthday to my favorite mom!

As you can see above, fruit cake is the preferred cake in our family. Not to be confused with the Christmas fruitcake everybody hates, Vietnamese fruitcake is a delicacy I have eaten in my birthday throughout the course of my entire tenure here on Planet Earth. Here’s to hoping there’s future fruit-cake at the wedding in October.
