Hallelujah for Rand Paul, who is currently in the 8th hour of filibustering the USA Patriot Act. Even if it doesn’t have the intended result, it will simultaneously give him free publicity for his campaign as well as expose to many uninformed Americans about the extensive breaches the law has on the 4th amendment and our civil liberties.
When I first heard Jeff Buckley’s version of Hallelujah (on the O.C.), I was amazed. It is simply a brilliant song hallmarking the high and low points of life and love. As we watched the conclusion of “Life is Beautiful” in class today several students teared up at the emotional impact the main character’s death had on them. I could only think of the song in the back of my head as the death scene was watched five times by myself.
But remember when I moved in you
And the holy dove was moving too
And every breath we drew was HallelujahHallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
HallelujahMaybe there’s a God above
But all I’ve ever learned from love
Was how to shoot somebody who outdrew yaAnd it’s not a cry that you hear at night
It’s not somebody who’s seen the light
It’s a cold and it’s a broken Hallelujah
