Day 77: True Colors

I see the true colors of most of my students, which is why I modified my lesson plan accordingly for each period.

Period 1: Did a Gallery Walk. They were okay and mostly productive.
Period 3: Did a Gallery Walk. They were loud, and boisterous, but completed their work. Did a 10 minute quiet study session at the end for test on Tuesday.
Period 4: Did a Gallery Walk. They were on task and we did a 15 minute study session at the end for test on Tuesday.

Period 5: Too loud. Couldn’t even be quiet for 2 minutes. As punishment, they worked at their seats quietly the entire period.
Period 6: Didn’t even give them a chance because last week someone dug through another student’s purse. They worked quietly at their seats the entire period (with one kid trying to goof off and trying to be the class clown. Parent alerted).

Regardless of the case, I have learned this year to be more adaptive towards different groups of students. Their true colors do come out when you give them a chance to work either independently or in a group scenario.

The true colors of my soccer players come out when they’re sitting on the bus or when they think they’re being unsupervised. I would think most people act like their true selves when no one else is watching.

I had fun afterwards eating Bachi Burger and Boba with a friend visiting from none other than…. Minnesota. Even though I can’t pick my students, I can pick my friends, and I like the true colors of each and every one of them! <24

But I see your true colors
Shining through
I see your true colors
And that’s why I love you
So don’t be afraid to let them show
Your true colors
True colors are beautiful,
Like a rainbow
