Day 41: Pursuit of Happiness

There are multiple ways to analyze a song. In this case, Kid Cudi’s “Pursuit of Happiness”, a personal favorite of ex#2 (Geetha), could be literally interpreted as a drug anthem.

Fortunately for me, I’d much rather interpret it in a historical sense, making a direct reference to Thomas Jefferson’s “Pursuit of Happiness” as listed as a natural right in the Declaration of Independence. That being said, people should be free to pursue their own happiness however they want – whether that be through recreational drugs or other means.

In my days at UCSD, I had the pleasure of being in a pretty good relationship. It obviously didn’t work out, but at the height of it all I was in a high and I wouldn’t trade those memories really for anything else. And I’ll continue my pursuit of happiness as she pursues hers. And though our lives have led to different directions overall, it was good that our paths crossed, for we learned more from each other than we would have learned on our own.

lyrics

The pursuit continues.

I’m on the pursuit of happiness and I know
Everything that shine ain’t always gonna be gold, hey
I’ll be fine once I get it, yeah
I’ll be good.
