Comic Con: Day 1

My legs are tired from the painstaking amount of walking done on my first day at Comic Con (arguably the third day of the 2012 convention though). Earle and I woke up roughly at 6am, showered in Claire’s apartment, went to McDonald’s for a quick yet terrible breakfast, went to Starbucks for some sugar to keep us awake (Caramel Frappucino for the win), and then immediately proceeded to find parking in downtown San Diego. We had to pay 20 bucks to park at some strange parking lot, and sadly walk roughly 25 minutes to actually reach the Convention Center. When there, we “volunteers” had to wait roughly 45 minutes in line to get our badges (and this was at 8:30 AM, an hour and a half before any of the Exhibits were actually open). We talked to some interesting guy while in line who said he had done all his shifts already on Tuesday and Wednesday of that week…. Lucky….

We explored the exhibits shortly thereafter on the first floor, which were both huge and entertaining. After getting a massive amount of free stuff (THANK YOU FOX BOOTH AND LIONSGATES), and watching Earle take a massive amount of pictures of strangers dressed up as superheroes, I accidentally misplaced my volunteer badge. FAIL. We had to rush back in the volunteer line to appropriately get a new one, where I unfortunately ended up losing my camera…. Le Sigh.

After more walking around the exhibit halls, and me finalizing my plans for the attainment of Glee autographs tomorrow, we went upstairs to pass by the massive lines outside the Ballrooms. We checked into our 3-hour volunteer shift at 1pm, getting placed in a nice area upstairs where I got the designated duty of distributing lanyards. It was funny seeing people come up to the table asking for new bags (after theirs ripped)…. And the staff and volunteers at the table refusing (under orders) to give them new bags but instead watching them staple them…. sadness. I got to talk to some nice girls while there, appropriately giving them my newly designed business cards. After that exciting endeavor, me and Earle continued down the exhibition booths to take more pictures. I took some with the Power Rangers, Bart Simpson, the Sailor Moon Girls, and Pikachuuuuuuuuu . We signed up for different shifts tomorrow, which means we’ll be separated. This was due to my desire to enter the “lottery” to hopefully get a chance to get Lea Michele’s autograph….. *Fingers Crossed*…. A miracle happened as I approached the lost and found by the end of the day: THEY HAD MY CAMERA. Which denotes the fifth time I’ve lost it (and found it yet again). Maybe serendipity does in fact exist.

Exciting things to note:

– Heaven and Hell Jesus guy who kept yelling at random people that passed by
– The sheer amount of ease to go up to people to both ask for pictures, and talk to them (and hand out business cards also)
– Earle trying to help a lady with her computer problems in the middle of the Convention floor
– Random Zombies blocking traffic on our way back to the car
– ANNOYING ONE WAY STREETS.
– Random Phil’s BBQ Truck on the parking lot directly adjacent from the Convention Center
– Lego Booth, FOX Booth, CW Booth, Running into Richard Simmons
– Massive amounts of artwork witnessed
– The Glee Project autograph signings, which I didn’t care for all. Hehe.
– Me missing the panels (Game of Thrones, Big Bang Theory) due to having a volunteer shift in the middle of the day (plus the long line for Hall H & Ballroom 20)
– Game of Thrones cast directly above us as we walked by (with traffic marked off by security)
– The amount of people that break their bags. And trying to get lanyards from their children
– Encountered Katie and Rosario walking pass us in line
