Hi, Today I went to my first training session for my summer job at UCSD, and it went a lot better than I expected and was even fun !
First, we checked in at about 9:45 and then things started at 10:00 am. I met many interesting people including my Student Leader (David), and another student leader (Michelle). Also, things went extremely well. First they went over lock-and-key, and various other things. We signed contracts, got diversity training, and customer service training as well. The good thing was there was free breakfast, lunch, and ice cream so that was pretty awesome! One funny thing I did was accidentally pour coffee in a biodegradable cup, and it broke so it spilled all over the table. It was laughable and quite embarrassing. I cleaned up my mess though.
We met with our groups – there are four: Muir, Revelle, Warren, and ERC. I got ERC, despite being a Warren student, but that’s fine. We had 3 activities we did for prizes – one of which was to make a balloon animal using balloons (obviously). Warren won that activity (we made a butterfly… that didn’t really look like one). The second activity was to make a picture that represented our college using ice cream and licorice and other snacks. We made a map since ERC has various countries that represents it. We won that one and I got bubbles! Our third activity was to make a movie trailer and poster for a particular genre that emphasized customer service. We got assigned sci-fi and created a plot where aliens came down to rent a house at UCSD housing conference services. Warren won that one again, and we lost. All in all, it was a fun day, and I met many cool people. I doubt the job’s going to be this fun, but training was – and all the people I’m working with are all social and outgoing, and fun. It’s going to be a good summer.
PS: Sun God was yesterday, but I’m going to save discussing that for another day (Maybe tomorrow). 🙂
