Day 152: Graduation (Friends Forever)

Other than witnessing a student mock 9/11, yell homophobic and racial slurs, as well as cussing me out, it was a pretty good day.

It was the last full day of teaching – and I exposed students to 9/11 by having a gallery walk, playing a super depressing video, and trying to remedy it all through a motivational “lost generation” clip.

The true moment of happiness arrived at lunchtime though when I got to reward my top 28 students with an amazing pizza party. They were polite when I talked and told them to make cards for the other teachers in the 7th grade hall to appreciate them. They were orderly when they got in line for the pizza. And if you look specifically at the picture we took together, you can see how normal and balanced they are as individuals.

Terrible kids make me want to quit teaching. These kids however inspire me to be the best that I can be, to motivate them to the best that they can be.

I played for them the cheesy graduation song, and they seemed to enjoy it. Hopefully they can stay friends forever :). p

As we go on
We remember
All the times we
Had together
And as our lives change
Come whatever
We will still be
Friends Forever
