This Saturday, I had a definitely “enriching” experience at the Ron Paul BBQ hosted by the San Diego meetup group. What better activity is there to do on a beautiful Saturday afternoon other than go to the park and enjoy some amazing free BBQ? (not to mention being given the ability to socialize with Ron Paul supporters from all different arenas of life). Nandhu would pick me up and subsequently we would drive around for 90 minutes getting lost looking for Mission Bay Park. When we eventually got there we caught up with Sam and Chase, as well as other strangers from all over San Diego (while simultaneously getting some delicious food, and not to mention some TASTY Velvet Cake). It was beautiful, and roughly40-50 people showed up as seen by the pictures below.

As Ron Paul balloons were scattered all over the shores of the beach (as well as further decorations in the form of banners and t-shirts), I couldn’t help but have a sense of “belonging” with everyone there. Though most of us were strangers, I felt the sense of community I haven’t felt for a while (especially at such a liberal and apathetic university like UCSD). The ability for me to talk to complete strangers there eased my conscience and really showed me how much I have progressed socially since the beginning of college.

Alas, the day would finally end. I got a chance to listen to some pretty “interesting” music from a fellow Ron Paul supporter (which he played for us live). To be honest the vocals could have been better, but the lyrics were slightly interesting. If asked again whether I would go out to another one of these “meetups” I most definitely will. The people are nice, everyone fully understands the “fight” we are going against (both against the establishment G.O.P., & the mainstream media), and the memories are definitely worth remembering in the grand scheme of what we call life.
