Happy Lunar New Year / Tet !

For the next 12 days, I will be focusing on the unique features of all animals in the Chinese Zodiac, starting with of course this year’s animal – the horse.

The main trait of a horse is FREEDOM. As a lover of America, I do believe in the American dream and that we should extend freedom to as many people as possible. I try to extend this value of education directly onto my students. Some of which appreciate it, some of which neglect it. But at the end of the day I’m not going to feel sorry for the students that end up failing in life because they didn’t put in the effort to “lock in” so to speak.

Which is why of course, for the first time in many years I gave my IB students red envelopes. Wishing them well for the rest of the year as they eventually graduate high school and start early adulthood. I would have done the same at Dale, but there were always 1 or 2 kids in every class that upset me enough to make me think twice. After the past few years and encountering many children that jaded me, it’s a refreshing change to see youth that care about the world we will live in. And they will be empowered to change the world. By far the best class I’ve taught since my early days at RKMS.

I hope Kai will grow up in a world where he will be free to choose his life’s passions and achieve the American dream.

To Kai, forever he will have freedom in America: life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
