Winter has always been my favorite season, because of its associations with the holidays and Christmas. As a young child, we never got presents in my family of 8, but I still felt the holiday spirit every year whenever the holidays arrived.
Most notably, I enjoyed Christmas music and writing Christmas cards to different groups of friends all throughout my life. Though many people detest Christmas songs (and with good reason sometimes), I will forever associate this music with my childhood.
Winter also means watching a ton of different holiday movies. Growing up, the first three Home Alone movies were a staple every holiday season in the Tran family household. Finally, the weather gets colder during this season, allowing us to bundle up with warm clothes and extra blankets.
Of course, Winter has a new source of meaning for me: it is the season in which Katherine and I got married! Not just because February happens to be the most affordable wedding month, but also because we will forever remember how our life came together in the winter of 2023.
