Career Day at Dale Junior High was a huge success! I was impressed with the level of respect and composure displayed by our students during the presentations. There were a wide variety of speakers from different career fields, and the middle schoolers had the opportunity to learn about many different professions. A huge shoutout to Ms. Cervantes and the Career Day Focus team for organizing such a wonderful event.

In my class, we were fortunate enough to have a detective from the Buena Park police department as our speaker. He gave our students invaluable tips for those interested in pursuing a career in law enforcement. His honesty and candor were truly refreshing, and he shared that he had never been shot during his time on the job. He also mentioned that he avoids watching police movies and TV shows because they are often wildly inaccurate.

The detective shared an interesting bit of history with us about the stereotype of cops eating donuts. He explained that donut shops used to be the only places open late at night when officers were on duty. Despite his passion for his job, he expressed that he would never want his wife to be a cop because of the dangers and challenges he has faced throughout his career.

I’m grateful for good cops like him who help keep our cities safe, and for the opportunity for our students to learn about the many different careers available to them. Overall, it was an excellent event that left a lasting impression on all of us.
