Wedding Vows

Feb 19th, 2023 will be a date that will go down in history as the greatest day in the life of John Tran, the day he married Mrs. Katherine Pham.

Here are the vows we promised to each other yesterday we will uphold for the rest of our lives.

John’s:

Ever since I was a kid, I had a persistent question on when and how I would find my soulmate. I even pondered if the concept of “the one” even existed, so much that I wrote a blog about it on July 8th, 2012 (at johnletran.com). But now, on this very important day, as I look at you, I know I have found “the one” for me – the Pam to my Jim, the Topanga to my Corey, the Misty to my Ash, and the Marge to my Homer.

On this day, I make several life-long promises to you to commit to you. These promises will spell out your name.

I promise to treat you with (K) kindness, in times of peace and in times of drama.

I promise to (A) accept you for all you are, all your perfections and lack of flaws.

I promise to (T) teach you more than I’ve ever taught any of my students.

I promise to (H) help you in times of need. 

I promise to (E) entertain you, much like a clown.

I promise to (R) raise you up when you’re feeling down.

I promise to (I) inspire you as you have inspired me.

I promise to (N) nap with you whenever you’re tired.

And finally, I promise to (E) enjoy all my time with you from present to death.

In the end, I promise to love you forever and ever. In systems, not silos. Till death do us part.

Katherine’s:

John, in you I found someone who supports me, inspires me, respects and honors me. Thank you for embracing all the parts that make me, me. You are fiercely loyal, trustworthy, generous and selfless to a fault. You make me laugh, challenge me, support me and – with your loving eyes – you never let me forget how beautiful and amazing you think I am, even when I forget it myself. You always cherish me and  love me unconditionally. So, with all my heart and all that I am, I promise to acknowledge and accept all of your strengths and faults, as you do mine, for better or worse. I vow to be your only partner in life, lover, friend, safe place, and peace. I promise to be by your side no matter what the future holds for us as we walk on this journey called life. We both know how indecisive I can be, but one thing I can say with certainty is that you, John, are the person that I want to spend the rest of my life with. You’re the person I choose to grow old with; albeit you already have some grey hair.
