Everywhere you go, there is a kitchen. The decision whether you use that said kitchen depends on the overall skill level you have in the culinary arts. When I took Culinary Arts ROP in high school, a kid laughed at me when I said I didn’t know how to crack an egg. As a result, I cracked his skull. Just kidding. Being of the “fixed mindset” that I am, I usually would say I am a terrible chef in the kitchen. That being said, my friend introduced me to this recipe, and showed me directly how to make it, so I could present it to you today. (Click here to read his blog).
And so, here’s how to make the best damn fried rice in Garden Grove, in Orange County, in California, in the United States, and in the world. A step by step process.
- Buy the ingredients. As you can see below, all you need is a pot of day old-rice (never use fresh rice: 3 cups is good), kim chi, oil, sesame oil, eggs, spam, black pepper, sesame seeds, green onion, nori, onions, and garlic. Once you waste your money on all those materials, it is time to cook.

- Peel the onion. Careful not to cry during this process. Protect your broken hearts.

- Chop the onions into tiny squares.

- The same process needs to be done with the kimchi. It will get wet. It will get messy. But you need to also slice the kimchi into various pieces.

- Cut the spam or whatever meat you end up using (dog is allowed) into tiny squares as well. 2/3’s of a cup of spam is adequate.

- Peel the garlic open and then also cut it into tiny pieces. As you can see, most of the time will be devoted to pre-cooking activities, mostly resulting in chopping. Like a Guillotine during the French Revolution, everything will be chopped before your eyes.

With the pre-cooking activities out of the way, it is now time to finally cook!
- Put oil in the pan and turn heat up to medium.

- Mix the oil.

- Put the onions in.

- Put the garlic in.

- Put the spam in.

- Mix thoroughly and wait for onions to finish cooking.

- Put the kim chi in. Recommended serving size depends on how much of the other ingredients you are using. I would say, a cup and a half for every 3 cups of rice.

- Finally, dump the rice in.

- Pour leftover Kimchi sauce on the rice.

- Mix thoroughly.

- Put ground pepper in.

- On a separate pan, cook sunny side up eggs on medium.

With everything done, put all the fried rice in a pan, and put the eggs on top. And voila, you are now a culinary chef capable of making Kim Chi Fried Rice.
From my experience, I would say it is a very time consuming process to cook. If you don’t have time I would recommend buying all the ingredients pre-chopped, or even better, going out to a Korean restaurant to eat.
Hope you enjoy the read and try the recipe someday. If you do get diarrhea or sick though, it is your own fault and I am not liable.
