It is finally that time of the year – my obligatory end of the year post recapping in a few words or less my entire year of teaching.
My 4th year of teaching was rather rough. I was blessed last year with an amazing cohort and disappointed this year with an underachieving, annoying, and unsympathetic step of students, one in particular that drove me insane.
Despite all this, it still ranks as my 2nd best year of teaching. Why? Because after my first two years, and with increasing xp points, my management has proven itself to be even better despite a challenging group. My sarcasm is only getting stronger as we move towards year 5 of teaching.
Let’s journey through the entire year through Instagram pictures:
My homeroom was pretty annoying this year, but I managed to force them to achieve their reading goal despite all this. I’m now confident I can duplicate the success indefinitely.
Builder’s Club remained strong, and next year I might transition it back to only allowing 7th graders in, because I’m done with this group of students (and it got too big and complicated with the amount of students interested).
This is a door I decorated for fall. It obviously lost. The winter one would have won, but got torn down by a lunatic.
I’ll always appreciate our school for the field trips we are able to give to our students. I wished I had gone to a school similar because it would have exposed me to so many more things at a younger age (instead of being boxed in).
My favorite homeroom remain’s last year, and I’m hoping it can be topped by next year by an even better group.
And despite being annoyed by most of these students, I do have a fondness for many of them and wish they were in a different cohort. To be frank, it was mostly the boys that irritated me with their annoying comments, annoying mannerisms, and generally annoying attitudes.
With this year done, I feel confident I can handle any burden thrown against me in the future. I am saddened by the many departures of teachers at our school, and they have truly taught me life changing lessons along the way.
Mr. Ngo who has taught me kindness and authenticity goes a great way in connecting with students,
Mr. Winnyfred who taught me to “go with the flow” and not worry about every little thing,
Mr. Johnson who has taught me the values of organization, friendship, and hard work,
And Sam Choi, the teacher of the year, who will always inspire me each and every day to become a better version of my myself and to challenge myself to teach better, inspire more, and love students unconditionally.
